Ivan Aivazovsky and Ilya Repin. Pushkin's Farewell to the Sea Painting by Ivan Aivazovsky

Ivan Aivazovsky and Ilya Repin. Pushkin's Farewell to the Sea.

In this picture Pushkin has been shown bidding farewell to the sea. Does it mean he is going to end his life there or that his death is round the corner one has to conjecture. This painting featuring the sea done in 1887 as oil on canvas by Aivazovsky conveys sadness. Since history mentions that Pushkin was fatally shot with a pistol by a baron, one can assume that this was the last time Pushkin saw the sea. Probably Pushkin had a premonition of his impending end and that enhances the pathos here. This art work is kept at The Central Pushkin Museum at Pushkin in Russia.
