Meeting of the Brig Mercury with the Russian Squadron After the Defeat of Two Turkish Battleships.

This 1848 oil on canvas shows the truce meeting after the Russian defeated the Turks and sank two of their battleships. Brigadier Mercury is probably the Turkish officer. The meeting seems to be held at the mid sea. It’s a calm sea and the afternoon sun casts its rays on the water though the clouds obscure a direct view.

This art piece is at The Russian Museum at St. Petersburg.
