Moonlit Night. Painting by Ivan Aivazovsky

Moonlit Night.

The full moon lends an eerie charm to the dark and cloudy patch in the front sky. As in other moonlit seascapes of Aivazovsky the moon rays shine on the seawater in golden hues. It is pertinent to remark here that moonlit scenery is frequently observed when one goes through the paintings of Aivazovsky. Even astrologically there may be a special affinity towards the moon for the author. This oil on canvas of 1849 is there to see at The Russian Museum at St.Petersburg.
