Mountain Village Gunib in Daghestan. View from the East.

This mountainous topography projects the lifestyle of a rugged people. The people are seen riding a horse or a mule and there are a small cluster of dwellings across in the background on the brown colored peak. It is said that apart from seascapes mountains too were part of Aivazovsky’s landscape paintings. Since he belonged to a mountainous zone he has a flair for this subject in his works. Painted in 1869 this oil on canvas is on display at The Russian Museum at St. Petersburg.
