On the Island of Crete.

An ancient sail ship is nearing the island where a few natives are shown in a group. Though the sea is normal there are dark rain bearing clouds in the foreground sky.The evening sun is also painted in golden hues. The islanders may be waiting for the ship to call at the shore and perhaps the natives are eagerly expecting some goods too. This seascape painting of 1867 by Aivazovsky with oil on canvas is exhibited at thye Aivazovsky Art Gallery at Feodosia in Ukraine.
