Reval Painting by Ivan Aivazovsky

Reval (Tallinn).

Aivazovsky has painted a scene with many ships at the sea near the shore. Some buildings are seen at the background and two minarets are visible prominently. This is suggestive of a muslim country like Turkey or some Persian port of call. Since the place of display is the naval museum the ships are part of a naval flotilla. Painted in 1844 this oil on canvas is kept at The Central Naval Museum at St. Petersburg.
