Shipwreck Painting by Ivan Aivazovsky

Shipwreck.

This picture of Aivazovsky of 1876 is frightening due to the time being dark and the upheaval of the sea. Man’s endurance levels are stretched to the maximum in such situations, dramatized by the author in a painstaking manner. The weather appears to be stormy and there is little chance for people getting rescued. A few people are looking from atop a cliff and the sinking ship’s crew members are frantically attemting to draw these people’s attention. This oil on canvas is yet another beautiful painting of the author’s first love ie sea and shipwrecks. This art work is on display at The Aivazovsky Art Gallery at Feodosia in Ukraine.
