Storm Painting by Ivan Aivazovsky

Storm.

This papier pele work using black lead and crayons is a great picture by Aivazovsky. The artist has very realistically brought out the violence unleashed by the storm at sea when gigantic tsunami like waves are lashing the sail boat which looks like beginning to sink. A man is struggling to clutch at the floating timber and his survival looks bleak to the viewer. This magnificent picture painted in 1854 is at The Russian Museum at St. Petersburg.
