The Battle of Chesme Painting by Ivan Aivazovsky

The Battle of Chesme.

This sea battle scene of the Chesme channel has been vividly presented by Aivazovsky in this 1848 oil on canvas. The ships burning and the flames lighting up the sky at night are so well executed. The victorious Russians got control of the Black Sea when they routed the Turks. This is the author’s outstanding sea battle painting which can be seen at The Aivazovsky Art Gallery at Feodosia in Ukraine.
