The Coast at Amalfi.

In this 1841 oil on canvas Aivazovsky has attempted to portray a hilly area on the coast frequented by traders in boats with ships anchored a little away. The dark hillside suggests the time as early part of dusk and impending darkness. The township behind the dark hill is shown with small lights already flickering. This enchanting picture is displayed at The Russian Museum in St.Petersburg.
