The Sea. Koktebel Painting by Ivan Aivazovsky

The Sea. Koktebel.

This picture by Aivazovsky done in 1853 as oil on canvas once again impressively conveys to the viewer the magic of the sea.

The scene here is a desolate seashore and a lone boat is parked on the beach. Koktabel denotes the name of the beach. A sail boat is near the shore is badly tossed about by violent waves. The frightening sensation is further accentuated by the emptiness around and the black clouds gathering for a shower in the distance. This chilling picture is kept at The Aivazovsky Art Gallery at Feodosia in Ukraine.
