Towers on the Rock Near Bosporus.

The storm affected boat with its passengers looks like being smashed on the rocks on the shore overlooking the sea. The setting sun and the breakwaters give a poignant touch to the scene in the fast setting sun.

A little towards the shore a bigger boat has already been wrecked by the storm. The towers mentioned in the title could be the castle towers in the foreground or the distant town with minarets shining in the sunset. Shipwrecks are said to be one of the favourite subjects for seascape painting for Aivazovsky. This1859 oil on canvas by Aivazovsky is preserved at the Aivazovsky Art Gallery at Feodosia in Ukraine.
