View of Constantinople by Moonlight. Painting by Ivan Aivazovsky

View of Constantinople by Moonlight.

Aivazovsky’s yet another ‘in the moonlight’ series, this 1846 oil on canvas is a beautiful rendering with brush and palette of the city now called as Istanbul in Turkey. The landmark mosque is visible in the foreground. Even today Europeans throng this Turkish city which is partly situated in Asia and partly in Europe and the Bosphorus separating the two segments. This picture is displayed at The Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
