View of Odessa by Moonlight Painting by Ivan Aivazovsky

View of Odessa by Moonlight.

The full moon just risen in the horizon sheds its light beneath the dark clouds in the foreground. The ship in the front and those at the rear add enchantment to the scenario and the tiny boats near the big ships look romantic. On the right the buildings are mildly glittering in the fresh moonlight. Aivazovsky’s painting of the moonlit harbor front Odessa is from his long list of outstanding seascapes done in 1846 oil on canvas. This picture ios preserved at The Russian Museum at St. Petersburg.
