Aivazovsky was obsessed with seascapes and sea-related topics for his paintings. In tune with this choice he painted this picture in 1835 oil on canvas. The somewhat dark ambience is suggestive of the time being early evening just before dusk since the sun is visible through the crimson clouds. The silhouette of the boat and its keeper has been realistically painted. This picture can be seen at The Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
