Bonnard was a French painter and printmaker and a founding member
of the “Les Nabis”. His early art works were exhibited at
the Societe des Artistes Independants”.
Pierre Bonnard's first show was at Galerie Durand Ruel
in 1896. Les Nabis was a group committed to symbolism and spirituality.
Bonnard used colors intensively. His complex compositions were sunlit
interiors of rooms and gardens with friends and family members, and were
narrative and autobiographical in style.
Pierre Bonnard painted his wife nude in the bathtub,
or in the kitchen. Bonnard made several self portraits, landscapes and
still life-mainly flowers and fruit. The picture for his paintings he
derived from his drawings of the subject, sometimes from their photographs.
He made notes on the color schemes and painted the canvas as per his notes.
Pierre Bonnard's well known paintings were INDOLENCE
(1899), MAN AND WOMAN (1900), and his triptych THE MEDITERRANEAN (1911).
His last painting was THE ALMOND TREE IN FLOWER.
