Russia-born Stravinsky’s name occupies a foremost place amongst the great musicians of Europe. His creations were supposed to have ushered in the age of neo-classicism. Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky was born at Leningard (now Petrograd) in the year 1882. His father was an opera singer. Stravinsky got interested in music from an early age. Stravinsky’s first marriage was with Catherine Nuseko (1906) and his second marriage with the well-known artist Vera de Boset. His talents weree nourished and given shape by teachers like Rimsky and Gilyev. He was counted amongst the foremost musicians before the First World war. He was acclaimed in France and Russia for his ballet named ‘Firebird’. Stravinsky remained in France and Switzerland for considerable time and traveled to many countries of Europe. During this period, he gave a lot of memorable creations. During 1938-’39, he lost his elder daughter, wife and mother.
