Mr. Mehta realized a long-time ambition in November 1994, when he brought the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra to his birthplace, India. By conducting in Mumbai and New Delhi, he helped bridge a political gap that had prevented them from performing there for three decades.

He has been awarded with innumerable awards and honors by many western countries. Recently, his name has been short listed for Bharat Ratna award too by the Indian government. A living legend in the musical world, Zubin Mehta has become an ideal for future generations, not only in India but all over the world.
