Caravagio Amongst his excellent performances, mention may be made of ‘Friendship Games’ (Moscow, 1986), ‘International Indoor Athletics’ (New York, 1987) and ‘World Athletics Championship’ (Rome, 1987), where he won the gold medal. He added another gold medal to his kitty at ‘World Athletics’ (Helsinki, 1983). He won the European Cup in 1985-86. He remained supreme in the games at Canberra and Seoul Olympics in 1988. Bubka is called the “First 20-footer”. He has set a remarkable 26 world records indoors and outdoors and was the first Pole vaulter to surpass even 20 feet when he cleared 6.1om indoors at San Sobestion, Spain on 15th March 1991. He has recently retired from active athletics.
