A single man’s protest soon became a storm and engulfed the entire Christian world. He won a large following who were called ‘Protestants”. His liberal and logical stand won approval of many rulers and eminent persons. Luther had to even suffer exile for his ideas.

Martin Luther was born in a prosperous family. He was of religious bent of mind since his childhood. He obtained doctorate in Religion from the Wittenberg University. Luther translated the Bible from its original source which greatly influenced German language. The movement that he initiated led to gradual decline of the power and position of Pope and the priests.
