While rounding Cape Horn, Francis slept very little and for four days, he did not feel like eating anything. Once he narrowly escaped from dashing against the Staten Island. On 31st March, after facing many troubles, Francis came out of the storm’s path.

On 24th April, the Gypsy Moth crossed the equator and Chechester felt his spirits rising.

During the month of May, he badly hurt his right elbow, which he himself treated with Arnica. Later on, it was discovered that he had a cracked bone. During the last month of the voyage, Francis had to suffer a lot because of his elbow. Eight nights in a row he took pain-killers. As soon as Gypsy Moth entered the North Atlantic Sea, T.V. camera crews, reporters and photographers started following her right from Azores. The media people bothered Francis very much. He felt so irritated that he rejected their proposal of replenishing very much. He felt so irritated that he rejected their proposal of replenishing his stocks of gin. When he was nearing his destination, Francis heard over the radio that thousands were waiting in Plymouth to give him a rousing reception and no wonder, for Francis Chechester had accomplished something which not other mortal had done.
