| Suddenly, the Italian brigade started firing. Hand grenades,
brainguns and tommy guns were used extensively. Under such heart-rending
conditions. The Gorkha brigade climbed the mountains with all precautionary
steps. The 35-year- old Subedar Lal Bahadur Tahapa was also a Gorkha. He
was expert in gun and rifle firing. He had completed 17 years in the army.
This humorous subedar was leading a mini brigade of 14 soldiers. They were
to capture the next mountain in order to reach the gateway to Fatnasa. The
enemy machineguns had blocked all the routes of this mountain-a mountain
of zig-zag and a few 200 feet high peaks. But, Lal Bahadur Thapa went ahead
with a pistol and ‘khukri’ in each hand. As soon as he reached
the first camp of the enemy, he killed all their soldiers with the help
of the ‘khukhri’ and a gun |
