Meanwhile, an attempt was made for the prisoners on ground to escape. Hence, the carpenters made imitations of the German rifles out of wood. Three prisoners, disguised as Luftwaffe, took 25 other prisoners in low under the pretext of cleaning their clothes, but escaped into the woods. A few minutes later, six senior imprisoned officers tried to get through, but they were detected and arrested. Consequently, all the prisoners wee forced to stand on parade for nearly seven hours. The three missing prisoners were identified. Later they were arrested before they could reach a safe place.

In the early 1944, the prisoners decided to extend the Harry tunnel. Dick was almost filled in with Tom’s sand. Therefore, no attention was paid to it. The sand taken out of Harry was hidden in a theatre built for recreation because in those days there was snows everywhere and nothing else. Harry was to be dug 300 feet deep. Meanwhile, one coil of wire was stolen from the two large electric coils brought by the German workmen to hook up the loudspeakers. So, there was light in Harry.
