In the tailor-shop, there were 60 prisoners. They were engaged in making civilian clothes out of the RAF uniform and turning out close copies of Luftwaffe uniforms. Documents, forged uniforms and civil clothes for 400 prisoners were going to be completed soon.

Suddenly, the prisoners learnt that the Americans were to be moved in six weeks’ time to a separate compound. The Americans had put in a lot of work on the tunnels. Therefore, it was decided to complete Tom as a fast as possible. By the end of June, as the Tom tunnel reached under the edges of the wood, the Germans began to cut down the trees. In fact, they wanted to build a new compound there. It was more dangerous now, but for the sake of Americans, they did not care and now Tom was 260 feet long.
