| Apparently, nature was against Captain Scott. For 10 days,
he continuously struggled with the nature’s fury. But, it was of no
use. Fe, along with the other two companions, couldn’t manage to reach
the godown. His last words in the diary speak volumes of his and other members’
sufferings. Finally, he realized the sword of death hanging on his neck.
He wrote, “…We would not be able to escape this… God be
kind to our family…”. All three died. At the time death, Captain
Scott’s arms were around his dear friend, Wilson’s neck. Had
Scott not written about the horrifying, frightening, yet adventurous details
of the journey, his contribution would have been nil. It was his diary,
which unfolded many mysteries about the South Pole and made Captain Scott
an unforgettable name. |
