A year after this, he again went on his expedition. This time he faced the wrath of cold and ice and marched on with his companions. By the time the reached near the North Pole, only he and Hansen were left. Other had returned. On 6th April, their compass failed to work. They got the hint. They unfurled the American flag on the North Pole and stayed there for 30 hours.

Robert and Hansen proudly returned in the last week of July. They were welcomed by the American President, Roosevelt, Robert was made the Rear Admiral in the navy. In fact, the whole world was proud of Robert and Hansen’s discovery.

The human beings by nature are curious. The discovery of the North Pole was not enough to quench their thirst of knowledge. They were now eager to unravel the mystery of the South Pole.
