The South Pole was colder than the North Pole. It was 9,000 feet high and even in summers, the temperature used to be below zero degree.

For 10 days, Captain Scott and two other men braved the snow storm. Their food godown was 11 miles away. Captain Scott tried his best to reach there, but in vain. He had to return to his tent. All three sat down dejectedly. Captain Scott started writing the diary. There was nothing else they could do. They could neither go ahead nor return back. They had realized their cruel predicament and silently waited for death.
