St. Idelfonso Receiving the Chasuble from the Virgin

It was December 1943, world war II was at its peak. Japan had conquered Burma and her forces were marching towards Imphal. They were scoring one victory over the other due to their spectacular war strategy. However, the British war strategists were also determined to protect Imphal as it was strategically very important.

Led by Oswern Hagey, the 48th Brigade of Cameroon, which was also called the Royal Gorkha Rifles, had earlier given crushing blows to the Japanese many times. Gaj Ghale, who was quite fleshy with an eversmiling face and sharp moustache, was a havaldar of this brigade. He was commanding a platoon of young soldiers. The platoon had not faced any cannonade so far. In the month of May, he was assigned the task of recapturing the post seized by the enemy.
