A Young Man Self-Portrait

When he was just 20 yards away from the enemy, his arms, chest and legs were badly wounded, but he did not retreat and entered the innermost core of the enemy. His valor and courage were a great inspiration to his platoon. Its oft-repeated slogan was’Aayo Gorkhali’. And to keep the honour of this slogan, he did not care for his life. In recognition of his meritorious services, he was awarded the Victoria Cross. Similarly, two other brave soldiers of the Royal Gorkha Rifles were also honoured with the Viuctoria Cross.
