It was Henri Honore Giraud, who was unfortunately made a prisoner of war for the second time. General Giraud was first caught during the First World War. Then he managed to escape from a German prison. This time it seemed impossible because he had crossed 61 and had lost vitality.

General Giraud was conveniently taken to the fortress of Konigstein. In spite of his old age, he began to plan an escape from the 150-feet-high fortress, with all entrances being doubly guarded. He was not disheartened. He practised his German until he could speak it fluently. General Giraud was allowed to write letters by the jail authorities. He used to receive packages
