| Hitler thought that ‘Luftwaffe’ was the key to
win Dunkirk. In fact, it was Goering’s suggestion to handover Dunkirk
to the air force. Hitler’s political strategy was that Great Britain
should conclude a treaty with him and handover Europe’s full administration
to him. He was not willing to lose the game at any cost by launching a final
assault on Dunkirk. From the war strategy point of view, his decision was
not respected. A few generals criticized his decision. They thought that
by leaving Dunkirk they would provide an opportunity to the British troops
to run away. So they considered the plan to be useless. But, Hitler and
Goering did not agree to change their course of action. Meanwhile, the British
troops were preparing to defend the Dunkirk port. Churchill decided to protect
Dunkirk at any cost, and to give a death blow to Hitler. |
