On the morning of 17th April, 1942, while Henri Giraud was standing on the balcony, he saw the guard walking away. Tied to his waist was a package containing chocolates, biscuits, the Tyrolean hat, and the raincoat. As the guard had walked away, Giraud knotted the rope to the balcony and started his 150-feet descent. He wore gloves, but even then the skin was chafed from his hands. However, he managed to reach the ground.
