In early June 1941, 11 Belgian soldiers, including an elderly woman, left Brussels in order to escape from the secret police of the Nazis. The group was escorted by a young boy named Arnold and a young girl named Andree. Arnold and Andree were the activists of an organization called ‘Comet’. Which was instituted by the idealist youths. The only goal of the organization was to liberate the Allied servicemen from the Nazis’ trap.

These fugitives did not face much difficulties on the way to the Somme river. Reaching there, they saw that a picnic party was in a joyous mood. All of them were appalled to see it. However, Andree succeeded in obtaining a long coil of wire and an inflated inner tube from a nearby farm. At night, she slipped into the river and after swimming 40 yards to the far bank, tied the wire to a tree.
