General Giraud died in 1949. He was buried in that cemetery where the great generals like Nepoleon were lying buried. Giraud is remembered not for his feats of military valour, but for escaping twice from the impenetrable German prisons. He was arrested when he was only a captain in World War I. But, he escaped from the war camp in Belgium. When he had become a general, he was caught for the second time by the Nazis during World War II.
