Fra Angelico Paintings & Drawings - Art gallery

Fra Angelico the famous Italian Renaissance painter, was reputed for his rare talent and obsession with perfection. He was highly skilled
in executing religious paintings. His early works like ‘Coronation of the Virgin’(altarpiece) , predellas –‘Miracles of St Dominic’at Louvre, ‘Virgin and Child between saints’(altarpiece), and the
predella ‘Christ in Majesty’.

At national gallery, London, ‘Deposition of Christ’ at National Museum of San Marco in Florence, ‘The Last Judgement’ at Accademia, and ‘Coronation of the Virgin’(altarpiece) at the Uffizi, are all superb art creations. His works combined decorative Internatioal Gothic style
with the more realistic Renaissance trends. He used colors to heighten
emotions.

Angelico’s skills were well honed in monumental figure
execution and representing motion.
The sense of ‘deep space’ was achieved through his judicious use of
the linear perspective.
