Arcimboldo, Giuseppe Painting -Eve and the Apple

Eve and the Apple, with Counterpart.

The lady with the apple and half exposed chest is understood as Eve, but the ‘counterpart’ with a paper rolled in his hand is unrecognizable. The soliciting by Eve holding an apple shows how the females try to hook the men folk. Probably the man is showing his writing and says ‘no’. This 1578 oil on canvas is in a private collection in Basle, Switzerland.
