An inscription in an ancient Egyptian document of about 1750 B.C. still remains controversial. There have been many discussions regarding its import. From its language, it seems to be record of events, while from its style it can also be treated as a document making a prophesy. We reproduce it below:

“People have revolted against Pharaohs appointed by god himself. The capital city has been ravaged. The poor slaves have imprisoned the Emperor. High ranking officers are fleeing to save their lives. Many government officials have been killed. The documents regarding tax and revenue have been destroyed. The poor are in possession of palaces. The rich have been rendered penniless. Those who did not even possess a goat are now in possession of hordes of oxen. Beggars are distributing grains. Slaves have become masters.” Historians and archaelogists have acute difference regarding this inscription. Some people believe that it depicts the conditions prevailing at that time, when the slaves had captured the capital city in a revolt during the reign of the father of Pharaoh Thutmos I. Some historians discount this theory as baseless for the following reasons.
