Two Witches

Bhrigu thought over the matter and said, “It is impossible to make a guess or hasty judgment in the matter. I will personally test them and decide.” Bhrigu thought that the one who could control his temper should be the best of the lot. He was able to enrage both Brahma and Mahesh. Lastlly he went to test Vishnu. Vishnu was asleep on his bed of sheshnag in Kshirsagar. Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, was massaging his legs. Bhrigu stood for some time and then a plan flashed into his mind. He hit the sleeping Vishnu on the chest with his feet. Vishnu was naturally awakened. He did not lose his composure and said, “Brahmrishi, my chestis hard like armour. I hope your feet are no hurt.”
