| From 700 B.C. to 300 B.C. Pythia continued to predict the
future at Delphi. During this period, many Pythias proved their genius in
doing this work. Some six hundred years before Christ, Croesus of Lydia
and Emperor Cyrus of Persia did not see eye to eye. Croesus eventhought
of attacking Persia. He wanted to confirm from the Pythia at Delphi if he
would be victorious over Cyrus. He sent a messenger to Delphi. He instructed
him to first ask her a question to test her accuracy. He told him to ask
Pythia as to what Croesus did ten days after the messenger left for Delphi.
Pythia replied. “The emperor cooked the meat of a sheep and tortoise
in a brass vessel and then poured sand over it and covered with a brass
lid.” |
