Jean Arp paintings
Jean was a German-French artist who executed paintings and sculptures
besides writing poetry and doing abstract works of art using waste paper.
He was a founder-member of the Dada Movement in Zurich. Early in his career
he was a surrealist but gave it up as he grew older. He wrote essays and
poetry too. He was deeply interested in developing what he called the
spontaneous creativity of the human subconscious mind. His collage work
consisted of several pieces of paper glued at the place where they fell
down on being tossed in the air. Eg. “Before my birth”. He
executed reliefs in the Harvard University Graduate Center in Cambridge,
MASS, and a mural in the UNESCO building in Paris. A large collection
of his works are to be found at the Musee d’art moderne et contemporain
of Strasbourg. His stone sculpture and crystalware works are kept at Kroller
Muller Museum in Otterlo in Holland.
