It was only in 1554 that John fearlessly made a public forecast. He said,
“The reign of Queen Mary shall come to an end in four years. “At
that time the repression let loose by Mary Tudor was at its peak. Readers
may recall that this fanatical Queen had unleashed terror on the Protestants.
They were being burnt on stake. John Dee was immediately arrested for
predicting the above. He was sent up for trial and many irrelevant charges
were framed against him. He was released in 1555. As he came out of the
prison, John Dee started pursing vigorously the career of a fortune-teller.
