John had great interest in astronomical calculations from the very beginning. He traveled throughout Europe and gave lectures at many places. His reputation soared high and it was said that he had no parallel in astronomy and in the study of the stars in his time.

It was only in 1554 that John fearlessly made a public forecast. He said, “The reign of Queen Mary shall come to an end in four years. “At that time the repression let loose by Mary Tudor was at its peak. Readers may recall that this fanatical Queen had unleashed terror on the Protestants. They were being burnt on stake. John Dee was immediately arrested for predicting the above. He was sent up for trial and many irrelevant charges were framed against him. He was released in 1555. As he came out of the prison, John Dee started pursing vigorously the career of a fortune-teller.
