Michelangelo made some 350 illustrations in the Sistine Chapel. They cover 1000 square feet. It took him four years of hard work to complete the work. The paintings are still as fresh as they were in his time. Millions flock to Sistine Chapel to see and admire them even today.
Michelangelo sculpted many statues. His statue of David in Florence is considered as a valuable contribution to the world of fine arts. It is carved in marble. His statue of Moses and the door of Portapia were equally famours. His sculptures have carved from him a niche in the world. He played an important role in the development of art during renaissance period. It was because of him that Florence became a world renowned center for art.
His memory has been honoured by countries all over the world. This temperamental
genious, although was highly paid for many of his commissions, continually
grumbled about being short of money. He lived for 90 years, but never
seemed to find peace in his mind.
