| Cagliostro shifted to Rome with his wife. He again tried to
establish himself as forecaster. His most famous prediction was made regarding
the fall of Louis XVI of France. As the sign of his fall became apparent
around October, 1789, his reputation reached its peak. As the revolt subsided,
he was charged with many offences and put into prison. Though the court
sentenced him to death, it was changed to life imprisonment on the intervention
of pope. He started counting his days in the prison with his wife. He tried
to run away from the prison but was caught in the attempt. He was transferred
to the fort of San Leo from St. Angelo prison. He was found dead on August
26, 1795. His wife died a year later. |
