The personal secretary of Napolean, De Meneval has written, “He did not like his wife’s trust in soothsayers and prophesies. Many times he admonished Josephine on this matter. I was present on many occasions when he bluntly refused to take advice from Lenormana. Once, he felt so angry that he got Lenormana arrested. The Empress always kept it to herself as to what Lenormana told her and she did not even let the cashier know when and how much she paid Lenormana for her advice.”
