The Catalan Sculptor Manolo		Harlequin Sitting on a Red Couch

Prior to his day of execution, the Supreme Court found some legal lacuna in his death sentence. His execution was stayed by a special order. The American papers gave full prominence to this story. Cheiro became a hero in the eyes of all the people.

A month before this incident, Cheiro earned fame in another matter. He had just reached America and set up business in the fashionable locality of Fifth Avenue. Fisher, correspondent of the popular newspaper New York World, placed before him palm impressions of seven people. He challenged Cheiro to give details regarding these unnamed persons. He assured him that if he predicted correctly, his paper will give him full credit and praise him to the skies.
