Woman in a Blue Hat. |
Woman with a Cigarette |
“According to the advice of my mother, I went to see her dressed
in a maid servant’s clothes. I tried to look as ugly as possible.
The old woman (Lenormana) looked crafty in her black velvet clothes and
pockmarked face. She looked at me intently and then continued staring
at me for some time. Then she spoke, You have tried your best to hide
your identity, but you cannot hide from me what is written on your face.
You are a rich woman. Though you seem to be unmarried, you have recently
lost your husband. Your troubles are to end soon. You will remarry and
that too before the spring. Do not try to know or search for you would
be husband. At present, I see a large ocean between you. You shall meet
him after two months.” I laughed at this incredible prophesy of
the old woman. I even retold the story to every one in jest.”
