Cheiro went to America in1893. A sensational case was being heard in American courts at that time. In January, 1894, the court had sentenced the accused Dr. Meyer to die on the electric chair on charges of murder. Those days, Cheiro was studying the changes that occur in a man’s life due to changes in the lines of his hand. He got the permission of the prison authorities to study Dr. Meyer’s hand. He told him, “You have to live for some time. You shall live in spite of the sentences of execution passed by the High Court. All your appeals will fail, even then you shall live. It shall be a miracle. You shall escape death at the last minute. I do not know whether the charge of poisoning your rich clients and embezzling their insurance money is true or not, but I know this much that your life will be spared.” He further continued, “You are only 44 years of age, doctor. You have still to live for another fifteen years. You will die in a hospital bed of some ailment.”
