Some critics believe that this memoir of Napolean had been faked by Lenormana herself. Many others assert that Lenormana had already achieved a lot of fame as a soothsayer. She had to no reason to fake the above. She could hardly derive any benefit from the same.

During her travels to Brussels, she was arrested by the police on April 11, 1821, on charges of indulging in forecasting in an illegal manner. She had to face a prolonged court case that ran for a long time. Eventually, she was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment on June 7.
