Vallabhbhai Patel, as Secretary of the Gujarat Sabha took up the question of forced labour. Later due to his efforts people began to press for payment for the services rendered by them.

Patel was among the followers of Gandhiji, He had fought against the punitive tax imposed on people of Borsad. Later the Britishers had to abolish the impugned tax. At his success, Gandhiji conferred on him the title of “King of Borsad”.
