Mohammed “The Praised One” preached his religious ideas based on equality and belief in the existence of one God. Thjis new religion was called Islam, one of the leading religion of the world. The Arabs believed in many gods and worshipped their images, slavery was prevalent, the positionof women was very degrading and a mand could marry as many times as he liked. Moreover, the morals of the people were also low. Mohammed denounced idolatory, laid stress on the equality of men, honesty and purity in personal life, prohibited men to keep more than four wives andalso declared that women were entitled to property. Soon Mohammed had a large following and authorities felt disturbhed at his growing popularity. But Mohammed managed to continued preaching to his followers. The teachings of Mohammed are contained in Koran which is the sacred book of the followers of Islam or the Muslims.
